Sunday night reflections

September 7, 2008 by Pastor Jerry McQuay

Well, we got through our first-ever 3-service Sunday schedule at our Tinley Park campus, and here are my initial thoughts:

  • physically, I made it thru better than some expected (several CLCers kept asking me afterwards how I was feeling & how tired I was compared to before – nice to know you’re all concerned :-) (or maybe just another sign that I’m getting old, or you wouldn’t even be asking!)
  • Biggest surprise of the day: the small attendance at the later (noon) service – especially since the Bears are playing tonight.  Most of us on staff thought a lot of folks would enjoy sleeping in and coming to church at noon.
  • Second-biggest surprise of the day: the number of CLCers at the early (8:15am) service – some of our staff were concerned that it wouldn’t be as well attended as Saturdays had been – but it was at least double our normal Saturday attendance, and good energy in worship as well!
  • Reports of good services at both our South Bend and Shorewood campuses as well
  • Great report from the Houston worship conference sponsored by Israel Houghton last week – CLCer Alan Franklin spoke to over 500 conference attendees in one of the sessions, and they gave him a standing ovation when he was finished!  (We’re blessed at CLC by some incredibly gifted & anointed worship leaders)
  • Really great reports from UGANDA, where our team of ladies concluded their ministry assignments at the huge conference hosted by Pastor K.L. Dickson – word is that we’ll hear LOTS of stories when they return late this week (pssst – I also heard Pastor Shanna preached the house down!)
  • Had a great phone call from Pastor Lloyd Bustard about his services today with Dr. Mike Evans and he then hooked me up with Dr. Evans personally (be looking for his visit to CLC in 2009!)

That’s about it….think I’ll go watch da BEARS v. Indy now.
