Weekend reflections
I’ll admit it: I was quite surprised this weekend. I knew it was a holiday weekend, but somehow I thought, based on previous years and on the price of gas this year, that we wouldn’t see a huge drop in attendance – but boy, was I wrong. It seems we were down about 25% in Tinley Park, and our South Bend campus had their lowest attendance since we launched there. Praise God for the report from our Shorewood campus, where attendance was actually UP, and where Pastor Dan Johnson baptized 10 new converts!
After lunch w/my family I came home to turn on the news, thinking I’d catch the latest on the Presidential campaigns, only to find that Gustav was bearing down on the Gulf coast and that evacuations had already begun. I just now read a post from a pastor I admire in Baton Rouge and he was expressing thanks that their attendance was 50% of normal today, in view of the hurricane threats. So that made me feel a little better – I mean, we could be facing some real challenges instead of just people enjoying a 3-day weekend.
So enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend while I drown my sorrows with some Diet Coke tonight and read a good novel and let’s all pray for good things from God this Fall!
